Fashion Counterfeiting - 1462 Words

Consumers want quantity over quality. Nowadays, it appears that more and more of the regular consumers are uninterested in the quality of the product they buy, but rather how much they will acquire from it. This leads to consumer purchasing fashion counterfeit products which is becoming a rising issue in the United States and Europe. Counterfeiting is an illegal act of producing and selling a replica of an authentic product without the permission of the designer. This market expands from movies, games, money, even medicine to clothes and accessories. Counterfeiting is a fast-growing industry that is a worldwide problem which consumers play a huge role in. Aside from harmless pirated movies and the danger of fake pharmaceuticals, fashion†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, a woman who lives in a small town, who occasionally gets to encounter high-end merchandise would not be interested in the fine stitching of the handbag, so she will probably buy the knock-off version. T wo other reasons why consumers intentionally buy fake goods are for aesthetics desire and because the luxury brands are way too expensive. This pushes consumers to intentionally â€Å" achieve their desired image via the consumption of high-fashion counterfeits† (Juggessur and Cohen 384). These are the factors that contribute to luxury fashion counterfeit. For this research, I interviewed one Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM) students and three consumers. The reason I specifically chose an AMM student is that this issue is regarding their field and future careers. Since consumers play a factor in this massive industry, I chose three random consumers between the ages of 16 to 35 years old. I asked each person the same five questions regarding counterfeit and each question are significant to this research. The research questions I asked are: Do you know what counterfeiting is?
